By training a structural engineer, he was responsible for many of the innovations that are now commonplace: monocoque unibodies, composite construction, aerodynamic downforce, mid-engined motor placement, and active suspensions. That some of these ideas have only fairly recently been incorporated into mass produced cars shows that Chapman was a true visionary. Especially when one realizes that he died almost 25 years ago.
